Professional Development

The Educational Policy Institute conducts conferences and workshops and writes books, articles, and guidebooks for the development of education professionals. This work emanates from EPI's mission to move research to practice.

The International Student Retention Conference. EPI will host its fourth annual retention conference in New Orleans, LA, in May 2009. This annual conference convenes an interdisciplinary group of researchers and institutional administrators, staff, and faculty who share a commitment to improving the success of students in postsecondary education. Keynote addresses by international leaders in the field of student retention, sessions presented by researchers and practitioners in which the latest research and best practices are shared, and plentiful social opportunities to discuss common solutions with peers are the hallmarks of this conference.

Workshops. EPI is building from its research platform on issues related to educational opportunity and success with a number of workshops aimed at providing educational practitioners with hands-on strategies that can improve practice. Currently, the workshops focus on postsecondary enrollment and student retention. EPI hosts two biannual Retention 101 Retreats for postsecondary professionals in the US and Canada. We also conduct an annual series of one-day Student Success workshops across the US and Canada. EPI recently introduced the Summer Institute on Student Success, an annual five-day institute for postsecondary practitioners and administrators on student access, retention, and graduation.

Webinars. In 2007, EPI began conducting web-based seminars, or webinars, on the issues of strategic enrollment management and student retention. These 1.5 hour events provide information for professionals to enhance institutional practice.
