According to data from the US Census Bureau, 41 percent of US 18- to 24-year-olds were enrolled in postsecondary education in 2016. This is the result of a steady increase since the mid 1970s from 27 percent. Thirty-one percent of this age group, often referred to as traditional-aged college students, attended a four-year institution and 10 percent a two-year institution.
