Occupational Projections 2035

This report analyzes U.S. occupational projections for 2025–2035, showing how education, specialized skills, demographic change, and technology are reshaping workforce demand. It finds that the strongest growth and highest wages are concentrated in healthcare, data and technology, management, and selected skilled trades, where advanced degrees, professional credentials, apprenticeships, or technical training provide clear routes to opportunity. Healthcare illustrates both sides of this trend: highly trained roles such as nurse practitioners and physician assistants are expanding rapidly, while home health and personal care aides are expected to add the most jobs because of population aging. At the same time, AI, automation, and digital workflows are projected to reduce employment in routine clerical, administrative, data-entry, and customer-service roles. The report concludes that education and workforce policy should align training capacity with high-demand careers, strengthen healthcare and technical talent pipelines, elevate career and technical education, and support reskilling for workers in occupations vulnerable to automation.

The Massification of Higher Education

The state of higher education is arguably one of the most prominent issues facing America today. From Capitol Hill to state capitals, streaming platforms to social networking sites, the condition of education, educational policy, and reform are continually discussed, printed, published, blogged, and debated. However, while the current status of education is incessantly criticized, relatively few sources have attempted to understand recent trends, particularly in postsecondary education, in relation to social, political, and historical contexts. With greater collections of data spanning characteristics of institutions, including enrollment, completion, and education finance, along with historical facts and figures, a new perspective on higher education that analyzes change is necessary to identify key issues and means of reform within the framework of society in the United States. This edition of EPICenter focuses on these trends.
