According to projections from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), there will be a net increase of 5.9 million jobs between 2025 and 2035. This is based on 831 occupational categories tracked by BLS which currently account for 153 million jobs across the United States.
The chart below lists the 20 occupational categories with the highest net positive job growth during the next decade, accounting for 3.4 million jobs. Of great interest is the educational requirements for these jobs. Of the total net job growth in these 20 categories, 1.8 million (52 percent) will require a high school diploma or less and 1.6 million (52 percent) some postsecondary experience. Broken down, 6 percent will require a postsecondary "nondegree" award, 35 percent a bachelors degree, and 7 percent a masters degree.
In 2035, 57 percent of the 176 million jobs will require a high school diploma or less and 43 percent some level of postsecondary experience or credential.
