Percentage of 2024 High School Graduates Who Directly Matriculated to Postsecondary Education Following Graduation

Of the 3.2 million students aged 16 to 24 who graduated from high school between January and October 2024, 63 percent matriculated to a college or university. As illustrated below, these rates differ greatly by race/ethnicity and gender. Ninety-five percent of Asian students went on to college after high school graduation, compared to 62 percent of White students, 59 percent of Black students, and 55 percent of Hispanic students. Women far outpaced enrollment compared to men, with 70 percent of women who recently graduated from high school matriculating to college compared to 55 percent of men.
